On Super Bowl Sunday I had the greatest idea! It wasn't anything football related though. While scouring Pinterest for ideas on making this Valentine's Day unique, I came across the most epic idea a person has ever had: pineapple wrapping paper!
I didn't have a rectangular box, but it turned out just as well!
Last week I got the chance to try some fancy coffee my mom bought me. There are two things you need to know about this coffee: one, it is fantastic, and two, this brand of Keurig cups doesn't have any plastic outside and can be recycled much easier!
I spent most of my free time last week working out. Homework just never seems to be done this semester! All the first exams coming up all at once as well. Working out has been such a stress relief. I don't mind working out as much now because my endurance is getting better and I've been listening to the Harry Potter audio books. I've only been back at school just over three weeks and I'm already on the third book!
It also snowed some more! The weather has been so unpredictable lately and trudging through the snow to class is another workout in and of itself! At the beginning of the year I made a challenge to myself to walk or run 1,000 miles this year and as of today I have 150.96. It's going much better than I thought it would!
Here are the two coolest campus food items from this week.
The first is an alternative salad I want to recreate sometime. It had corn, black beans, quinoa, green onion, tomato, and cilantro. It's the nicest thing I've found at the cafeteria salad bar so far!
I found a quesadilla place on campus!! This knowledge makes me so happy. There are 10 different types to choose from. This is their "ancho" quesadilla. I'm not sure what that means but it was super spicy! Well worth it though.
Small view of student life: coffee and taking a picture of the Kabuki man in the night-time cafeteria because your day was so standard that he's one of the most interesting things you've seen all day.
Just kidding, college is great! And that strange man on the shelf has always seemed strange to me...
On Friday some washi style tape that I ordered from China arrived in the mail! I laughed out loud when I opened the box because they were so tiny, but then again I did only pay $3 for them including shipping! I used them to decorate the candy packages I bought for my friends.
Ryan came up to visit later in the evening on Friday. We went out to eat at Lisa's Pizza and went to custom route. Our pizza had thin crust, white sauce, sausage, mushrooms, meatballs, and black olives. It was wonderful!
Now for the most exciting part of the weekend: we went skiing!!!! I get to cross something off my bucket list already!
We left Milwaukee for Cascade Mountain pretty early.
The trip up was beautiful because everything was coated in a fresh layer of snow. And even though the car ride was long we made it in good spirits. We put on the first Harry Potter audio book (I've been really into Harry Potter lately) which helped the ride along.
I was super psyched and nervous when we got there! We rented all our gear and signed up for a beginner's ski class. Since we had downtime before it started, we decided to practice moving in the skis.
It was incredibly difficult! I kept sliding backwards when I wanted to go forwards! Eventually we made it to the checkered flag where the lesson would be, but I stopped moving on a tiny slop and slid backwards in a baby ditch and got stuck! I had to take the skis off in order to get back out!
Our ski lesson was awesome. I was so much more prepared for the slopes after taking it. The instructor taught us basic maneuvering and had us walk up a slope sideways. It made my calves burn! We practiced on the same tiny hill as the little kids in the "Cascade Kids" class.
Then we were released to try the bigger slopes! We started out on the "Bunny Hill" and progressed to the bigger one next door. Other than the big slope we tried that was a little out of my skill range, the only time I wiped out was getting off the ski lifts!
We stayed until the sun went down and I could no longer feel my fingers. The entire day was more than I could have asked for!!
Eventually we hit the road and made it back to Milwaukee late in the evening. We ordered sushi for delivery from Rice n Roll. I tried a salmon and avocado roll while Ryan got a kind of fancy rice that had all sorts of ingredients in it!
Sunday we stayed in most of the day, but that was okay since the day before was so busy and the weather was bad. We worked on homework, walked around campus, talked, and watched Scooby Doo on Netflix :)
My suitemates and I also exchanged small Valentine's gifts and one of them decided to go all out! She made roses out of jolly ranchers!! I was so impressed!
I'm sad this weekend had to end but am even more glad it happened! Happy Valentine's Day 2016!
Hi my name is Emilee and these are my adventures as a young adult living in Milwaukee. Here I will share my experiences as I navigate through college. Thanks for stopping by!
