Thanksgiving break seems so long ago now, but it was certainly a wonderful time! I really enjoyed seeing my family members again.
My break started right after my math exam. After taking it I ran back to the dorm, grabbed my bags, and met my mother and my friend at the front doors and began the journey home! We stopped at Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch on the way back. It was my first time ever eating there and it was pretty good. I ordered their taco special with a side of chips and salsa and also shared some fried pickles with my mom. Yum!
It's still a little hard to believe we had snow for Thanksgiving. Thankfully in Monroe it rained for a couple days straight and was mostly gone by the time Thanksgiving came around! It did make the drive home more scenic though.
When we got back to Monroe my mom and I went grocery shopping for last minute dinner items then to my sister's cheesecake fundraising meeting at her school. Going back to my old high school wasn't quite where I wanted to be my first hours home from college, but it was alright!
Afterwards my family and I made pasty pie and ate it while watching NCIS on Netflix. I'm so in love with that show right now! We also drank ginger ale (I had to include the photo of my glass because I thought it looked epic!) and wrestled the dogs into their adorable sweaters.
The next morning Ryan and I met up bright and early to get some coffee and catch up. We went to a cute little cafe called Perks. Ryan was feeling bold and ordered a a double shot espresso (he's not a big coffee drinker so always takes a gamble when we get coffee) while I had a iced peanut butter mocha. It was quite fantastic! Perks if full of comfy couches and bookshelves. I loved it!
After coffee we took a walk on the snow covered bike trail and walked until we reached a local park. Monroe was a miniature winter wonderland!
It was so good to see this guy again! :)
Then it was Thanksgiving day! I helped my mom prepare pumpkin pie, but then she basically did everything else! I promised her that me, my sister, and her can alternate hosting and cooking for Thanksgiving once we're old enough, and she thought it was great but didn't help lessen the workload for her anymore this year!
I love the atmosphere in our house at Thanksgiving! This was also the first year Ryan joined us for Thanksgiving. Everything went very well. We ate good food, watched the parade, and caught up with all our family members.
I also spent a short amount of time at Ryan's house. By the time we left only his parents and sister were there, but it was still cheery. I saw Tippy for the first time in forever as well!
The rest of the weekend was spent hanging out with my family and playing Skyrim. I've resisted playing video games thus far in my college career and thought since it was break it would be fine to start again.
My dad and I both restarted our games to see who could level up the highest before the weekend was over. He won, but only by half a level! I'm sure I'm in the lead now though because I've been playing it at school (and still have managed to be productive in all my classes)!
Saturday we decorated the house for Christmas. We got everything done before my mom came home from work, so she was really surprised! We also got into the spirit by listening to the Twisted Sister Christmas album.
A before and after of our Christmas tree. The LED lights give it a very blue hue!
My all-time favorite Christmas ornament: a 70s style VW van!!
That night we watched more NCIS together and ate Chinese take-out. My fortune was really sweet!
Sunday morning was an epic breakfast. My mom baked a beautiful round of monkey bread, then Ryan and I cooked some eggs, waffles, and toast!
The rest of the morning was spent relaxing and hanging out before my friend picked me up to head back to Milwaukee. It was a little sad to leave everyone again, but I'll be back before I know it!
Finals week is already only a week away, then the epically long Christmas break. I hope to do a lot of adventuring during that time!
For the rest of this December weekend I'm going Christmas shopping for all my friends and loved ones. I have a very small budget but will make the best of it I can! I'm also going to a friend's dance performance so have that to look forward to! Hope all the holidays were great!
Hi my name is Emilee and I am a kinesiology undergraduate student. These are my adventures as a young adult living in Milwaukee. Here I will share my experiences as I navigate through college. Thanks for stopping by!
