The other day I told my sister I thought it would be fantastic for her to start a beauty blog where she could do makeup tutorials and review products and such. After telling her that I felt inspired to do my own product review as well! While helping her pick out supplies I picked up a new lip balm other than Baby Lips (which is my go-to). Here's what I think:
Because I'm super unprofessional with reviews I ripped the packaging off before it occurred to me I should photograph it. Oops. Anyways, here is the lip balm! I bought the rose tinted Keep Calm and Play balm made by Rimmel Londen.
The product description claims that the balm will moisturize for hours, protect lips from the elements, and give lips a hint of color. Because that is what the product says the balm will do, that is how I'm going to judge it. By the way, I went all out for this review! Just wait and see!
PArameter 1: Moisturize for Hours
While applying the lip balm I felt as though my lips were being coated in a thin layer of waxy material. The balm had enough weight/presence that I could sense it on my lips even half an hour after applying. Although I kind of lost track of making product notes while waiting for hours to go by I can assure you that it lasted at least an hour.
Parameter 2: Protect From Elements
So I'm pretty sure that when they wrote "protects from elements" in the product description they were talking about sun exposure. Due to the waxy feel this gives my lips I'd believe that the sun's rays would have a hard lip damaging my skin. Then I decided to take it a step further.
Water is also an element. And lately it's been raining a lot. So, I decided to test how well it stood up to a splash of water on the face!
Go hard or go home: cold water!! Wait for it...
All the water dripped off, and my lips still felt all balmy!
Parameter 3: Hint of Color
The left photo is before applying, the right photo is after applying.
There is a teensy-weensy difference! Just barely though. That's okay since it's only supposed to tint, but for the most part I just think it made my lips look more shiny.
My own PErsonal Input:
This product seemed very, very waxy to me. In the past the only balm I've really used is Baby Lips and Aquafina which both seem to offer good hydration without so much waxy weirdness. It might also just be me, (and I know you're not supposed to eat chap stick) but when I licked my lips I got a very strange taste/texture in my mouth from the lip balm that certainly wasn't pleasant!
Based off of the judgement parameters indicated by the company this product scored a 3.6/5.
Due to a personal dislike of the waxiness and the lack of tint it provided to me personally, I give this a 2/5. While the product holds true to what it claims, I personally did not appreciate the weird feeling it gave my lips and probably won't buy it again!
