On leap day I was invited to a fancy banquet for doing well my first semester of school. I ate the fanciest food I've eaten in a long time: smoked salmon and caprese salad! While there I also won my very first raffle! It helped that most of the guests didn't show up and there were ten prizes for about fifteen people, but it was very pleasing nonetheless!
Last Tuesday there was a snowstorm on campus. I wasn't aware of this until after I went to class, however, and found myself completely surprised when I got out of discussion! Happy first day of March!! It was a real slap in the face!
Later that evening mom texted me asking if I got her care package. I check my email and sure enough, I had mail! I checked the clock: 6:52. The mail room closed at 7. Ack!!
I scared all the people in the common room as I sprinted towards the elevators and jammed the down button. I practiced deep breathing when people from several other floors stopped the elevator so they could go down too. I made it just in time at 6:58! I was the last person helped of the evening. My mom sent a giant tin of homemade cookies and goodies!! It made me really happy even though it caused me to throw healthy eating out the window for a few days.
I survived my anatomy midterm. I've been preparing for it for weeks and was glad to at least feel like the preparation paid off! Afterwards my friend and I went to the Grind to get tea to help calm out nerves. Only two more midterms left to go! I also went for a run after tea. Week six of my 10k trainer program is going well! I've also made it to the fourth Harry Potter audio book and am totally loving it!
Last Thursday we celebrated a friend's birthday. I gave her a bajillion different kinds of Reeses because that's the only candy I know for sure she likes! The guy gave me a funny look when I was checking out...
We went to our favorite taco place (and also the only that I know of so far) for dinner. There was a special for $2 tacos!! I ate way too much there and had to lay on the floor for an hour when we got back to the dorms. It was a really good night though!
Only certain tacos applied to the $2 special so I limited myself to those. They have deals going on almost every night of the week! Apparently they also have stickers because almost everyone on campus seems to have one, but the last two times I've gone they're been all out!
Alas, someday I will get myself a fancy cow sticker!
I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but one of the reasons I love this restaurant is because they serve three kinds of complementary salsas. The orange one is my favorite.
I ordered the carne asada, black bean and corn, and the pollo Yucatan. I highly recommend the last two if you ever find yourself at Belair! If you order three tacos you get free rice and beans, so if you go on $2 taco night you can have a giant meal for only $6! As a poor college student, that's brilliant! :)
Despite the wild snowstorm only a couple days previous, while walking back from the gym last Friday I noticed this plant starting to bud. It made me very happy.
Ryan came to visit last weekend. It was very spur of the moment, but I was glad to see him again because I'd been feeling some of the midterm blues! I had a gift card to the Milwaukee Ale House so we enjoyed a fairly inexpensive meal.
We ordered cheese curds for an appetizer and I daresay they're better than the ones my hometown is known for! That probably makes sense to almost no one but my town loves its cheese!
I ordered a very interesting steak and beet salad. It was an interesting experience but I wouldn't order it again. We also got a side order of fries and beer cheese to split.
It was great catching up! I miss this guy like crazy while I'm at school!
In the morning we tried out Ryan's virtual reality-sensor bar thing. It was very interesting! There were a lot of different applications and games to try out. I'm brainstorming what kind of application I would make if I knew how to code.
Ryan headed back to town Saturday afternoon. I spent a brief part of the evening preparing for more exams, but then decided to go out with some friends. We went to the part of Milwaukee where the off-campus dorms are. I honestly have no idea where that is, but it felt like an entire miniature city of its own! We went to dinner at Qdoba and I tried their Knockout Tacos. Pretty awesome! (but all tacos are awesome)
Because one can never eat enough food during stressful times, we went to a Yo Factory after dinner to get some frozen yogurt. I've never been into one and it was very welcoming! There were lots of seating options and different games to play while eating your dessert.
There were mini cups so you could sample the different flavors before making a commitment! I sampled just about every flavor before settling on a berry sorbet.
I tried to make it a little healthier by adding mostly fruit to my sorbet. I also couldn't help adding some blueberry yogurt covered pretzels and cookie dough pieces! There might be more toppings than sorbet...
The table we sat at had a Marilyn Monroe puzzle. We spent nearly an hour trying to put it together before realizing it was missing a few vital pieces. We just couldn't finish it knowing part of her eye was missing, so we left it uncompleted.
We went back to the Cambridge dorm for a short tour before heading back to our own. I saw this on the wall though and couldn't help taking a picture because the message holds true!
The first week of March was quite busy but I still found time to enjoy college life! Hope your leap into March was a good one!
Hi my name is Emilee and I am a kinesiology undergraduate student. These are my adventures as a young adult living in Milwaukee. Here I will share my experiences as I navigate through college. Thanks for stopping by!
