Today was filled with lots of adventures! To begin, some friends and I decided to make a trip to Wal-Mart and use the public bus for the first time. I've never been on anything other than a school bus so it was pretty exciting!
Our actual trip to Wal-Mart was typical. We got some stuff like toilet paper and groceries. Afterwards though we were starving! We ordered a pizza from Pizza Hut and picked it up. We were going to just bring it back to the dorms with us, but when we looked up the bus schedule it said the bus wouldn't be there for another half hour. Boogers.
We found a nice clean looking patch of grass close to the bus stop and sat down with all our bags so we could have a picnic. The five us dug in and were about halfway through our first slices when all of a sudden the bus pulls up!! We scrambled to our feet and chased the bus, arms loaded up with grocery bags and our hands full of pizza!
Once we were back settled in at the dorm we signed up for a tour called "Creme City Tour." We had no idea what it meant but decided to sign up!
We found out that Milwaukee is apparently known to some as the Creme City because a lot of milk being shipped around gets transported through Milwaukee. Alright then. Also a lot of the old brick building were made from a fine white clay. That makes a lot more since to me, however, it's hard to tell because a lot of the old buildings are also really dirty.
Anyways...........we got to ride on a trolley!
The purpose of the tour was to give us some history of Milwaukee and some recommendations of cool places to go. Our first stop was the Urban Ecology Center!
There was a really cool lookout point jutting off the top floor.
We climbed the stairs to the top and got a really cool view of a park and of and campus way off in the distance!
Our second stop was a Collectivo Coffee House in an area called Riverwest. It was a super colorful cafe and apparently they're all over Milwaukee! I loved the coffee I got there and will have to make plans to return in the future!
A view from the inside, along with my iced hazelnut coffee...
Then we went to explore the downtown. The buildings there are gorgeous!
The downtown park we visited had a memorial to a man who was killed there :(
Our last stop was an awesome Mexican grocery store called El Rey. I really really want to go back there because they have a restaurant inside the store and I seem to always be craving Mexican food!
The owners were super kind and gave us free samples! Yum yum yum...
After that the tour was concluded and we returned to campus. Our class of 2019 picture was the next day so we all received free t shirts to wear to the event.
And that concludes my colorful day exploring Milwaukee!
Hi my name is Emilee and these are my adventures as a young adult living in Milwaukee. Here I will share my experiences as I navigate through college. Thanks for stopping by!
