The end of this semester has been super busy and it feels as though my energy levels and those of everyone around me are gradually depleting further and further each day. Even one of my professors admitted to feeling the slump! Despite this though, I have had some chances to feel like something other than an end-of-semester college zombie!
I've picked up running again and have been going almost every day. Hopefully it'll be nice enough outside soon that I can start running on the lake path. Last week I also stepped outside my usual latte routine and ordered the monthly special "Vanilla Blackberry," which was awesome.
I discovered this poster hanging outside the classroom for my anatomy lab. Confused? I am too...
A week and a half ago I took the most difficult exam yet of my college career. My anatomy exam focused specifically on electrolyte balance and I left the exam wanting to cry because I only knew about four questions. My professor must have heavily curved it though, because most of the class managed to do alright! Also, I'm not sure why, but my anatomy professor prints all of his exams in Comic Sans MS font and I find it really distracting!
My friend and I went back to the Kenwood restaurant for lunch the day of the exam. This time I had a Cobb salad with buttermilk pesto dressing. It's my new favorite kind of dressing!
The weather has still been pretty cold despite the fact that it's now almost May! And wow, it's almost May!! However, there are some really pretty white flowers tarting to bloom around campus.
On Earth Day two friends and I went to a very eclectic Earth Day Party at a local ecology center!
There was live music, fresh fruits and vegetables, Purple Door ice cream, a scavenger hunt, terrarium magnet and herb planting stations, and bingo! We also go the chance to see a bunch of local reptiles and speak to a representative about the college of Freshwater Science.
While on the scavenger hunt we had to go out on the roof to see an awesome sunset.
We received T shirts as prizes for being some of the first to finish the hunt. I love free clothing!
We tried both ice cream flavors from Purple Door. No shame! They were both delicious!
I put so much stuff in my terrarium magnet that I ended up needing to attach four magnets to the back in order for it to stay up on the fridge!
I also won an ice cream token to the Purple Door for winning my very first ever game of bingo!
You how sometimes kids do creepy things? Well I noticed this art poster on the door in the bingo room. Under the picture were the words "devil head." Why?? And why would they hang it up?
Some of the creatures from the reptile room. This was the funniest looking turtle I've ever seen!
The following Saturday morning was very nice. I called my grandmother, had a long run on the track (4 miles!!), and watched several documentaries on Netflix. I watched Food Inc, Blackfish, and Life. I chose documentaries instead of TV shows because I'm giving about speech about the importance of limiting entertainment screen time so tried some educational time instead. It worked for awhile. I found each of the documentaries very thought-provoking and I recommend them, especially Blackfish.
I lost my motivation in the evening though and ended up watching the entire fifth season of Friends. It's so addicting! As are goldfish crackers- I ate the entire bag in one day. Oops. These two were close friends!
Sunday morning I ate breakfast in the cafeteria for the first time in ages. I was having a mad craving for scrambled eggs. Those will for sure be a staple next year when I have a kitchen!
I watched more Life documentaries about animals and worked on a ton of school work. In the evening a friend and I discovered a giant box of hedgehog cookies in the common area! Apparently someone got a hedgehog and left the box with an invitation on top to go upstairs and meet it! I decided not to go, but did take a cookie! It was so cute!
I had my last day of lab this week! We took our final exam on the digestive, endocrine, and reproductive systems. I think all the studying paid off because I felt pretty good afterwards! Celebratory food. I love when the cafeteria has berries!
Almost everyone has stopped showing up to my anatomy lecture. The semester started with about three hundred students and it has probably dwindled down to about sixty. It was after start time and I was wondering where the professor was when I looked around and saw him sitting behind his podium reading a magazine! It was so odd!
After lecture I ran on the track again. I've now finished the fourth Harry Potter audio book!
On Tuesday my friend and I decided to go grocery shopping at Walmart after class. While waiting for the bus we encountered a city squirrel and I decided to see how close I could get before it ran away! Super close!
While at the store we decided we need to find a place closer to the dorms to shop at next year. While waiting for the bus this really crazy looking guy started screaming profanity and waving his arms around. He was walking towards us and we were feeling pretty uncomfortable, but then the bus conveniently arrived! However, a man getting off let out a toxic gas cloud and we had to walk through it in order to get on the bus. Eww. We found out there's a place called Metro Market within walking distance, so hopefully sometime soon we can check it out!
One of the food items I got was $1 microwavable Creole rice. It turned out pretty good!
I dutifully followed the microwave safety rules and stood by the microwave for 12 minutes. I tried changing up the laces on my shoes!
I've started making PB&J snack sandwiches as well! I eat them before I run and they give me a lot of energy without making my stomach hurt.
We had a floor meeting about move-out and got the low down on how the whole process works. There are a lot of really strict guidelines to follow. For instance, there's a cleaning list for us to complete and we have to move out 24 hours after our last exam to prevent overflow. We also can get charged $75 for an improper checkout, and there are a LOT of ways to have in improper checkout. We'll all just have to pay close attention! I now officially have a move out time, so the end of the year really is happening now!
Last night I went to Flicks with some friends to see the movie Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It wasn't a very good movie, but I still really enjoyed it! Ryan and I went to see Pride and Prejudice at American Player's Theater last summer, so I actually knew the story line and the characters and enjoyed seeing how they warped it into a zombie film! Also Matt Smith was hilarious!
Afterwards we hung out in the Palms cafeteria and talked. One friend and I had a super intense staring competition that went on for so long that we both started crying! We made quite a scene because at that point it became funny and we were just sitting there, unblinking, laughing, and crying! Thursday was kind of like my Friday because I no longer have Friday classes!
Now today is actually Friday and I have to say I'm greatly looking forward to this weekend!
Hi my name is Emilee and I am a kinesiology undergraduate student. These are my adventures as a young adult living in Milwaukee. Here I will share my experiences as I navigate through college. Thanks for stopping by!
