I don't know about you, but the last couple weeks really flew by for me! Fall semester wrapped up quickly and everyone on campus was thrown into the limbo of needing to study, wanting a break, and not being sure what to do with themselves since classes had ended. It gets very disorienting because you have a concrete schedule for 16 weeks and then it just...ends! I am glad for it though! Here is what happened during the last weeks of class:
December first, we finally popped the birthday balloons! The faces became very concentrated as they shrunk and were quite amusing!
Our Christmas tree also went up. I made all 30 of the pinata ornaments by hand, and it was such a relief to finish them in time for the first of December! I've been working on these buggers since June and will be posting a separate post on how I made them. The post should be informative, but won't be a complete tutorial because I only took pictures sporadically during their making!
Class, class, class; work, work, work. On December 13th, we had our first snowfall! To be honest, so far in Milwaukee we've gotten a pretty sad amount of snow. The first day always feels so magical though!
My roommates and I decided to spend time together this year instead of passing around gifts. We baked thumbprint jams and chocolate chip cookies. Right before we began baking, we realized we never picked up cookie sheets...this forced us to get creative! We stuck those cookies on anything else they'd fit on: pie tins, deep pans, muffin tins...We also went to a salsa and bachata dance lesson at a restaurant called the Buddha Lounge.
On December 18th, Ryan and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary! The night before we had some awesome (but very spicy) pizza. We made homemade crust and topped it with brown sugar bourbon barbecue sauce, fire mango Jack cheese, and stir fried mushrooms and onions. The next morning we cooked brunch (soooo much food) before heading to the Third Ward. We finished up what Christmas shopping remained, explored the area, picked up Colectivo coffee, and went ice skating. It was a dreamy day :)
The last night before my roomies and I went our separate ways for the holidays, we went on a Christmas tree hunt. We walked all over downtown Milwaukee and searched for the best Christmas trees! The one below was definitely my favorite from the night. Before heading on the bus back home, we took a walk through one of the lighting setups and were blown away with the feelings of holiday spirit.
And there were the last weeks of class! I am very thankful for the positive people in my life; this semester was a busy one where the days were long but the weeks flew by. I had three part-time jobs and took 18 credits, so when I finished my final chemistry exam last week it was as though a weight had been lifted from my shoulders! I am enjoying my time at home now with very little on my calendar. Spending Christmas up north with my grandparents this past weekend was a wonderful experience and helped me feel grounded again. I hope your holidays were merry and you are looking forward to the new year!
Hi my name is Emilee and I am a kinesiology undergraduate student. These are my adventures as a young adult living in Milwaukee. Here I will share my experiences as I navigate through college. Thanks for stopping by!
