Before and After Returning to College

1/24/2016

I am officially back at college now! My last days in my hometown were spent running to appointments, spending time with loved one, and eating lots of food. Then there was the dreadful packing for the return trip...

But the good life first!

Last Thursday Ryan and I went to our town's super cute cafe called Perks. The inside is covered with art, plants, and cushy chairs.

We ordered mango iced tea and an Irish creme latte and chatted until my sister got off of school to go grocery shopping with me.

Coffee is an expensive habit to have in college. I own a Keurig so my options are the K cups or walking to the coffee shops all around campus. A lot of my grocery money gets spent on maintaining my coffee stock! This semester I'm going to try to cut back to just one cup a day.

When our parents got home we debated where to go for dinner. Since it was our last night together before I went back to school, my request was chosen! Luna Maya!!

My dad smiled as soon as I said it, then pulled out a folded piece of paper. I unfolded it. It read, "I predict that Emilee will pick Luna Maya." Yeppers! I changed up my routine and ordered steak fajitas, We spent the evening talking about our lives and cracking jokes.

Friday morning I had an appointment at the oral surgeon. They examined my wisdom teeth and scheduled a surgery to have them removed. Over spring break :(

Before my appointment though my mom took me back to Perks for more coffee! This time around I had a Ghirardelli caramel latte. It wasn't the most considerate to drink coffee right before my teeth examination, but they only needed to look in my mouth for a short while so it probably wasn't that bad!

After meeting my dad for lunch I went to Ryan's. Turns out he was really in the mood for some carrot cake! We got everything out and had just starting preparing the batter when we realized we had no carrots. Oh snap.

We debated what to do and decided on substituting apples instead and it turned out all right! Paired with a scoop of ice cream it was a real treat!

After baking I went back home for dinner (so much food). We ordered pizza from a place called Vince's and got a taco pizza (that tasted more like cheeseburger with olives) and a Sicilian pizza. They were both fantastic.

Since it was just me and my dad we watched a documentary about little creatures in the ocean by Antarctica whose population is supposedly changing due to global warming. It was fairly interesting!

They said the creatures were only as big as your pinky finger. I looked at mine and thought that wasn't so bad, but my dad thought that was pretty big. His pink is almost twice as long as mine!

Around 8 I went back to Ryan's to watch the first Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows movie. I think it was good but I kept falling asleep. I eventually got home and finished packing up all my stuff.

The white tub weighed a bajillion pounds because I put all my textbooks into it! We got it all into the car and were on the road by 9:15am. It was hard saying goodbye to my dogs again.

The car ride was quiet for the most part but the road was scenic.

We stopped for brunch at Perkins. It's become our traditional stop on our way to drop me off.

I ordered a breakfast quesadilla. No matter how many times I insisted I liked the insides, my dad kept shaking his head and saying I ordered it because it said 'quesadilla'.

I was back on campus around noon. When I first got back to my room I had a mini heart attack because I thought my roommate was sleeping in her bed (she said she was gone for the day). Then I realized it was just a strategically placed body pillow. We have fish now!

It took me until 3:30 to finish unpacking everything! By the time I was done my entire suite was back. It was great to see everyone again.

My floor decided to go out for dinner to celebrate being back. We went down to Noodles and Company as a party of 15 to catch up and eat yummy food. My favorite dish there is the Thai Curry soup.

We finished the evening off with a trip to Walgreens followed by watching the movie Step Up. I thought is was so-so and kept falling asleep. I haven't been able to make it through movies lately.

Overall the first day back was great and I'm excited for the semester to start tomorrow!
