The first week of August flew by before I knew it! In addition to being my last week of work for the summer, I also began finalizing plans for my fall job and upcoming move back to Milwaukee. I've been trying to walk Buzz as much as possible because his walks will probably dwindle once I move back. Walks make him so happy and he's come to expect them- in the morning when I drink my coffee he sits and stares expectantly until I go get his leash!
After his first walk of the month I made a super berry smoothie with raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, almond milk, and stevia. A new coworker brought in amazing dark chocolate sea salt caramels to work to celebrate her start. They were so wonderful that the giant container was gone in three days!
That night my mom made fresh salsa because we had a tomato overload in the garden! It's still mass producing tomatoes. Last night she made two large batches of salsa and two gallons of spaghetti sauce and there are still 20 tomatoes sitting on the counter (exactly, I counted)!
I restocked our flower vase with fresh flowers. I love how much color we have in our yard!
On Tuesday Buzz had a field day when we went off-road walking. Graceful loping.

On Tuesday Ryan and I had a painting challenge. Each week we've been challenging each other to do things they've never done before and this week I picked painting pineapple! It was so random but we had an interesting time completing it!
The paper towel we used to dry our brushes was a work of art in and of itself!
On Wednesday I made a very filling breakfast bowl. It had leftover taco seasoned corn and beans, Cajun seasoned bell pepper and mushrooms, and fresh cilantro. It kept me full until lunch!
I made an awesome discovery at lunch. I was planning to make a burrito for lunch but microwaved my toppings on top of my tortilla for a minute and found the tortilla perfectly toasted like a quesadilla! I just had to fold it over and dig in. This will save a lot of grill time in college!
On my last day of work I work up early to make raspberry rolls to bring in as a treat. They're like cinnamon rolls but with fruit filling instead of the cinnamon. I doubled the cream cheese frosting portion of the recipe to make sure each roll got a healthy dose of yummy goodness!
After work I had no idea what to do with myself so I completed a super intense workout I found on Pinterest. It was 50 jumping jacks, 50 crunches, 45 jumping jacks, 45 squats, 40 jumping jacks, 40 jump lunges, 35 jumping jacks, 35 push ups, 30 jumping jacks, 30 burpees, 25 jumping jacks, 25 crunches, 20 jumping jacks, 20 squats, 15 jumping jacks, 15 jump lunges, 10 jumping jacks, 10 push ups, 5 jumping jacks, 5 burpees. I was so done after finishing it!
After a much needed shower, Ryan and I went out for coffee at Perks. Then we went to the local candy store to stock up on sour candy! Ryan's challenge for the week was to sample the sourest candies we could find! They ended up not quite as sour as we'd hoped so we might do a retry at some point in the future.
I've been on a super cereal kick lately! It's beginning to overtake the smoothie phase.
Since I've been walking so often with Buzz I can't help but notice how many churches we have in town! There are at least 7 in a two mile radius around the central square.
After our walk I made a raspberry, mango, spinach smoothie. I've never put spinach in a smoothie. It had a kind of grainy texture but sometimes mango can make that happen, so I can't comment much. I definitely couldn't taste the greens though! The finished concoction also reminded me a little of blender salsa...
Ryan came over in the afternoon to make black bean burgers with me! I'll post the recipe later. I really loved the way they turned out. They didn't look pretty when I flipped them but shaped up after cooking them some more. I realized after putting them in the oven that I didn't add the egg. Oops!
When evening came around I watched the opening Olympic ceremony with my dad, sister, and pups. I wasn't sure what was going on in the opening because the first people out on the floor looked as though they were wearing tinfoil and waving bigger tinfoil pieces up in the air! I thought the flower bikes with the country name plaques were super cute!
On Saturday my dad, sister, and I watched the entire Olympic bike race. It lasted so long that we just milled about the house, checking in while doing other things. We took a break to run to the store and get sandwich ingredients and I made my own version of the Jimmy Johns Beach Club that was significantly healthier than their original!
In the evening my dad grilled sliders on the grill! They're so cute! In California I had a burger topped with guacamole and since then have almost never gone back!
The sunflowers outside our house have to be nearly 9 feet tall!
After dinner Ryan and I went up to attend a friend's bonfire party. I've never gone to a real bonfire before and had a blast!
On Sunday my dad, sister, and I went to Vitense to try out the driving range and play some mini golf.
Mini golf courses are so colorful and fun! We stopped keeping track of score after the second round because we realized we needed way more tries than the maximum of 6 to get the ball into the hole!
After our adventures at the golf land we went out to eat at HuHot Mongolian Grill. This is one of my all-time favorite restaurants because it's a stir fry bar and has a Coke freestyle machine which is the only place I can find that has my favorite soda vanilla ginger ale.
Overall I had a great first week of August! Now we're halfway through so it's definitely going by fast! Hope you have something fun planned for the rest of the summer!
