I am slowly climbing back up after falling off the face of the earth. Somehow we've already plowed about half the way into spring semester and my classes and giving me a run for my money. Between classes and work, finding time to relax has become challenging. For me, balance is learning how to be busy without feeling overwhelmed. I'm learning to take each event during my day one step at a time. My week days are long, but I accomplish a lot during them. I am counting down the days until spring break because I've decided to make spring break a no school week. I have a lot of both catching up and working ahead to do in order to make this happen, but I'm determined to make it a reality.
After our family vacation, the rest of winter break was quiet. On one of my last nights at home, our dogs were begging in the most adorable way. They really wanted some popcorn.
Looking at these pictures again makes me miss my dogs, but I'll see them pretty soon!
Breezing through January...
On the road back to college. So much has happened since the start of this semester. If only I had any idea what craziness was about to ensue! My mom and I stopped at Starbucks to get coffee and a way overpriced lunch before hitting the road.
Our R.A. updated our door decorations for the new month. She went with a sweets theme and made the theme of the bulletin in the common area "How to Keep Your Suite Sweet." This was fitting because one of our roommate's from Fall semester moved out due to conflict with another roommate. Little did we know, she was soon to be replaced with another interesting person.
With a couple days before classes actually starting, I reorganized my space. My souvenir pig from San Antonio reminds me to stay cheery when I'm drowning in the sea of homework.
I also re-potted my succulent into a larger container because its roots had no room to grow. He's looking a lot better since moving!
Ryan and I went to Belair the night before the first day of classes. I decided to feed my soul and order a burrito. It was beautiful.
I've also been developing a system for grocery shopping. I'll admit I was much better at this before the semester was in full spring. I would make a list including all the ingredients I needed for recipes for the week and cross off what I already had. Then, after shopping, I would make note of changes I made while at the store. It helped stave off impulse buys.
My recipes for January were vegetable curry and chicken fajita pasta.
Let the classes begin!
Near the end of January our movie theater was playing the Disney movie Moana. My roommates and I attended and we were pleasantly surprised!
We also went to an electric violin concert. It was slow at the start but got better with audience engagement! I took a ton of videos that night.
An advertisement for mandatory fun. Our RA was apparently tired of no one showing up to her events, so she made it a requirement. She went over policy guidelines and emphasized the school's zero tolerance policies. Coincidentally (I think not) our new roommate who ignores many school policies did not show to the meeting.
To end off the month, Ryan and I went to Cafe Hollander. It's been way too long since I last went, and, once again, I was amazed by their food. I ordered a cafe au lait and we shared an appetizer of bruschetta. For my main meal I had their house tomato basil soup, which inspired me to make soup myself later on in February.
This is the start of getting the blog rolling again. It has been hard to find time to update . I feel like I'll be able to share more once I'm back on real time. This post was like "what happened in January again?" I'll do another catch up post on February and then I'll be up to the present.
Hi my name is Emilee and I am a kinesiology undergraduate student. These are my adventures as a young adult living in Milwaukee. Here I will share my experiences as I navigate through college. Thanks for stopping by!
